The Khomli Mountain is located In West Georgia, near Kutaisi City. The ancient cronicler (name unknown) famous historicist’s scholars Vakhushti Batonishvili (Prince Bagrationi) and Ivane Javakhishvili provides interesting information on the Khomli Mountain:
“To the west of the river Rioni, at the foot of a mountain, there is the Khomli cliff, which is really lofty, and it owns its name to its height almost reaching to the Khomli star.
There is a cave in that cliff, impassable to the foes, and the treasures of the kings are kept in that cave.” “So, the two kings divided the whole land in two parts including the major towns: one took for himself Kutaisi and the other – Tbilisi. They also divided in two but a lesser part of the whole treasure kept in the cave. The larger part of the treasure was left lying in the cave. The famous chain and the unmatched precious jewels, namely the big pearl, fell to the share of King David, the son of Queen Rusudan.” The first expedition aiming at discovering the treasure was organized in 1943. The expedition group consisted of 11 members; 4 of the members were Russians . In expedition has participated famous Georgian alpinist Aliosha Japaridze. The group spent several weeks in one of the caves. The expedition was secret and the results are unknown.
The Khomli Mountain is built of limestone of the Uric Age and is a complete Karst massif. It is distinguished for its abundance of clefts and caves.
